WOW, things have been crazy busy since Friday! Let's get you updated a bit!
Friday I finished work around noon, picked Stephan up and we started the 3 hour drive down the border. Everything worked fine, we got the confirmation letter stamped and signed, along with his passport and his new PR card should be arriving in the mail in 8-12 weeks. So its official, he's here permanently and he can't be sent back to Germany. WOOHOO!
I should note that on the drive to the border, there were wind warnings of 100km/h + !! It was VERY windy. Stephan had been creeping up on the speed every once in awhile, and I was uncomfortable (from my back when I fell down the stairs the weekend before) and sitting on two pillows, one underneath my butt, and one behind my back (everybody should drive like that, its so comfortable). I had been warning Stephan to slow down SEVERAL times.
.......well, guess what happened? That's right, we got pulled over. The cop walks up to the car, sees its not me behind the wheel and makes a comment. Turns out Stephan was going 28km over the speed limit (see, I warned him!!!). He started asking us where we were going in such a hurry, and we explained the situation. Than he just started chatting, asked us where we came from, when we moved from Ontario, why Stephan left Germany (duh, ME!), how long we've been together, etc. He told us about how he and his wife left Eastern Ontario and moved out here. Then he looked over at me, asked what book I was reading and started suggesting other books by a different author on the same topic. He stops mid-sentence, looks at me again and asks "What's with the pillows???!" And so I had to explain to the cop why I have pillows. And with that, he told me to be Stephan's cruise control, told Stephan to slow down and let us go.
WEIRDEST conversation with a cop.
We got back to Calgary around dinner time and celebrated by going to the Keg. And me, not liking any of the seafood or chicken options on the menu, ordered and ate my first steak in 14 years. And I liked it, it was just a lot to handle for my poor tummy. (Just to make clear, I liked steak I just didn't like hamburger or anything else, so I cut it out along with the rest). I'd eat it again. Steak the odd time, or a pot roast. But I still wouldn't go back to eating it all the time, and I still have no desire to eat hamburger. But that's another story for another day.
BIG relief for both of us that this immigration process is over. :)

PR card Friday!
Tomorrow is the day. I finish work at 11:30 so that we can drive 3 hours down to the U.S border to get Stephan's permanent residence approval letter stamped, and get his PR card in the mail. An appointment at the immigration office here in Calgary was a 6-8 week wait, and his letter is only good until the beginning of April. Plus, his work permit expires on March 19th so we need to get that letter stamped before that, or renew his work permit. So down to the border we go!
I spent the last few days obtaining and organizing the documents that we need for the border. I love the area down south where we will be driving, near Waterton Park (which I love, and I'm hoping we'll stop in at on the way home!!). But I'm also a little worried about how my very sore and bruised back will take the 6 hours of driving. Its much better than it was on Sunday, but its still not the most comfortable and very tender.
THAT being said, we are both VERY excited to have this ordeal over. Once we get that stamp, his PR card should arrive in the mail in 6-8 weeks. Finally!!

BIG NEWS!
We got word from our lawyer yesterday that Stephan's application for his Permanent Residence card has been approved!!! So we meet with the lawyer on Saturday, to go sign documents and to figure out what we have to do to get his card now.
YAY!! HUGE HUGE HUGE relief for both of us! We are both very happy and excited! :)

This is why I have Stephan...
It's amazing how a phone call with the man you love can fix everything! After venting and complaining on the phone to Stephan, I feel a lot better. My confidence and ego is a little less bruised, and I'm feeling less doubtful about my capabilities. I know this happens with everyone throughout their career. But I feel a lot better about getting through it knowing I have a man who loves me, supports me, and believes in me by my side.
When it comes down to that, what else matters? That's what's really important. As long as I have that, nothing else matters :)
Sorry for the emotional post before! Sometimes, a girl just needs to vent a little and get it out of her system.

German Apple Crumble Cake
This past Thursday evening I tried a new recipe. Stephan had been asking and hinting for awhile for me to make a German Apple Crumble Cake, and I had finally got the recipe from someone. So I tried it, since the recipe looked pretty simple. And it was VERY easy to make! Not complicated at all. This is another traditional German recipe from Stephan's childhood. And according to Stephan's verdict, I aced it on my first try. Its very simple, not overly sweet and DELICIOUS! I would definitely make this again. Anna even approved...she licked the dough off of the bowl (she worked her way all around the rim), she loved the soft little pieces we broke off for her (the soft part under the top crust), and licked our plates clean after we were done.

How you can tell Stephan is not Canadian
I keep telling Stephan he would fail the citizenship exam (or whatever it is) because of the following that CLEARLY give away he is German, and not Canadian....you can decide for yourself!
1.) He doesn't like maple syrup. Seriously, how else do you eat pancakes?! (he eats them with apple sauce and sugar). This also rules out maple candies and anything maple related.
2.) He doesn't like corn on the cob. He likes corn. Just not on the cob. I on the other hand drool when there is corn on the cob and eat it like its my last meal. Oh how I savor the goodness of corn loaded with butter, and some salt and pepper.
3.) He doesn't like cinnamon. This totally rules out french toast with cinnamon, brown sugar and MAPLE SYRUP. See what he is missing out on?!
4.) He's not a fan of bacon. We Canadians like our bacon. Even me, who doesn't eat pork will scarf down some nice crispy bacon. And you can't go without bacon in a Ceasar salad. Which brings me to my next point....
5.) Stephan doesn't like Ceasar salad! Granted, until several years ago I didn't either, but when I rediscovered it, it was heaven! Now I am making up for lost time (even though I almost stopped eating it when I found out about there being anchovy paste in it....eew. Still delicious though).
6.) He doesn't like anything bbq or smoked/hickory flavour. How else do you eat chicken wings?! mmmmm bbq sauce. The one great thing about this is that I don't have to share my chicken wings, haha! Although...I also have no one to finish them if I get full (I often make Stephan eat my left over food).
7.) He thinks that soccer will take over hockey as the #1 sport in Canada. HA! (or used to, I think maybe he has changed his opinion on this). Granted, its quite possible to become our favourite summer sport, but favourite EVER?! no way! Hockey is ingrained in our blood the way soccer is in his, in Europe. As soon as fall hits out come the road hockey nets, and time to prep the out door hockey rinks! And when the lakes freeze, time for pond hockey! We go a little crazy for it (yes, I am one of the crazies!). Besides, we have way more months of winter than summer. And the reality of indoor soccer arenas in the winter is really only an option for the larger cities and lets face it, we got a lot of small little towns in Canada who wouldn't have access to that (but who DO have access to outdoor rinks and pond hockey) ...you see my point here? I could go on.
I also realize most of my things were about food. ....it was not a good idea to write this in the morning. I'm starving!
Gotta go get some breakfast, have a great day!

weekend recap - weekend 3 of 3 Stephan is home :)
This weekend was the last weekend I had Stephan for. On Friday he leaves to go back to Ontario for 1 1/2 weeks (he hasn't been back since we moved here). He's really excited to see his best friend again. And for Oktoberfest!
Friday wasn't very exciting. We prepared our immigration documents, making sure everything was finalized and watched TV. Woohoo, we lead exciting lives!!!
Saturday morning we had our appointment with our lawyer, to finalize and sign the documents from last week. It took awhile, but we got it done. Than we spent the rest of the afternoon running errands, which included getting me a new winter coat (my current one is about 6/7 years old!). This is the one I got, from Rickis:

I chose this coat because of the hood, which I regretted not having on my last coat. Especially with the wind we can get here in Calgary, sometimes a scarf just does not cut it! What's even better, is that the hood is removable so I can get both looks with this coat! 2 for 1, what's better than that?!
We did some laundry on Saturday (again, very exciting) and had a nice warm dinner of chili, followed by some movies on the couch (which I fell asleep for!).
Sunday was our church thanksgiving. Here in Canada we have our Thanksgiving in October, which falls on this coming weekend (long weekend for us, woohoo!). Our church always celebrates it the weekend before, which I think is smart as people are often travelling and away for thanksgiving. So we had our normal service, which Stephan came to church for, followed by a turkey dinner with all the fixings and lots of german goodies for dessert (Stephan was quite excited about the home-made plum cake, which he now is insisting I learn how to make. Great).
I had a little bit of a nap after church, then spent the afternoon doing some things for work, and working on my course. We watched Pan Am again, and I must say that I quite enjoy it, despite the ratings. I love the dresses they wear, and I want them all! I'm on this huge retro kick right now.

weekend recap - weekend 2 of 3 Stephan is home :)
2 weekends in a row that Stephan was home! woohoo! I can't remember the last time we had 2 weekends in a row :)
Friday after I finished work we met with our lawyer. We finally had everything ready for Stephan's permanent resident application, and so we dropped it off to our lawyer and went over everything with him. Now all that is left is to sign it this weekend, and then it will be in the mail and we sit and wait. We were really happy to have everything ready for the application, so we went out to Boston Pizza for dinner afterwards to celebrate, and topped the night off with a movie at home.
Saturday was not very exciting. I had to work for part of the day, as did Stephan. He got called out on an emergency, some windmill blew up down south and he had to go fix it. He ended up being gone the whole day, and got home at supper time. Poor Stephan, he was so tired when he got home :( So I made him a nice dinner to make up for it, and since we were both tired we lazed on the couch watching movies for the evening.
Sunday I had church in the morning, and than after church Stephan had been invited out by some friends from church to go golfing. It was his first time golfing, and he seemed to enjoy it :) They golfed until about 6:30, which was perfect as I had got a stew going in the slow cooker before church, and so it had cooked all day to its ultimate yummi-ness :) Stephan packed for work this week, and then we spent the evening watching some tv, including the new Pan Am series, which we both enjoyed :)

Weekend recap - weekend 1 of 3 Stephan is home :)
Friday night was a quiet night, we just spent it at home watching tv after we ran some errands. I spent some time working on my course, and on Stephan's immigration application.
Saturday we slept in a bit and than did some shopping after our usual pancake breakfast (gotta love traditions!). After errands we were lazy and had a nap, before getting ready to head out for the evening to a pub downtown for some drinks with friends. It was a great night, and we really enjoyed ourselves. We actually didn't end up staying to late, we headed home by 11:30.
Sunday was more busy. I had church in the morning, as usual. After church we decided it was time for Anna's first bath and boy, what an experience that was. The poor girl howled and cried so hard, and was shaking and scared that she made both of us feel pretty horrible and mean. She hated it. Surprise surprise. But she survived. Although I don't think the next time will be any better. We plan to bathe her once a month, and she's an indoor-only cat. I think once a month is ok, right? I took a photo of her shortly after her bath, however it's on Stephan's camera and I forgot to get it from him before he went to bed so oops!
After that we headed out to Chestermere to visit some friends from church. Their 8 year old son, Ethan, had had surgery done on Friday on his nose (something to clear out his sinus or tubes or something) and so we dropped in to say hi and see how he was doing. We brought both their kids some treats, plus a little extra for Ethan to make him feel better. We spent the afternoon with them, and ordered dinner. It was a really nice time, as we hadn't had a chance to hang out with them in quite awhile. Stephan especially, as I see them at church sometimes. We didn't stay too late, as we had some work we wanted to get done on the immigration application before bed, so we headed home around 7:30.

weekend recap
I realize I didn't post at all last week, but it was crazy busy and so will this week be too. I hope I can be better this week with my blogging. Between preparing for my first week of planning the theme at the pre-school, my course and working on my Stephan's immigration application things have just been nuts. We finally got the last piece of information we needed from Germany, and are hoping to get the application processed in the next week or 2. So with that, on top of everything, I've barely been finding the time to sleep and eat.
Friday was a night in, I wasn't feeling well and so I took the night off for myself just to relax in front of the tv. I went to bed early. Not a very exciting night.
Saturday I got up not too late, and did some work on my course and on planning for work. After that, I headed off to Spruce Meadows for the Masters. It was the last big competition of the season, and my last chance to stalk Ian Millar. It was a success, and the weather was perfect. I'm really glad I took the time to go, I had been looking forward to this for weeks. I have pics, but don't have time tonight to take them off my camera. After The Masters I spent the rest of the evening on paper work. Fun fun!
Sunday was church. I officially changed congregations to a different location, since its much closer to my home. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming, and already plans are in swing for Thanksgiving :) I love that holiday, and I'm looking forward to celebrating it with my new congregation :) Still feeling not quite 100%, I took a nap after church and then spent the rest of the afternoon and evening reading for my course, and doing paper-work for my job.
Now this week is more work on my course, finishing the immigration application, taking Anna to the vet and trying to set up an appointment with the lawyer...which is a nightmare because I finish work well after his office closes and trying to find a time I can fit in my schedule is almost impossible.
Wish me luck!
How was your weekend?! I hope to catch up on all your wonderful blogs! Please forgive me for not commenting or reading this week, as I do love to follow them!

What I'm Loving Wednesday
This Wednesday I'm gonna link up with Jamie for What I'm Loving Wednesday.
I'm loving that Stephan is home from work, even if its a day late
I'm loving that we got to enjoy a wonderful dinner together, in our new house.
I'm loving being a home owner :) It just feels so right and natural :)
I'm loving that we are starting too look at kittens. A companion while Stephan is off working would be really nice, especially since it looks like he'll be working these long shifts for the rest of the year.
I'm loving the beautiful summer we've been having. We've really lucked out with the past few weekends.
I'm loving that today was my last day at Subway, which means that....
I'm loving that I start my new job, and my career as a pre-school teacher on Monday
I'm loving that I get a bit of a long weekend before the new job :)
I have a lot to love this week, and A LOT to be thankful for! :)

weekend recap
Well, not much exciting to tell you about this weekend.
It was quiet, and Stephan was away for work. Friday night, friends from church had a birthday party for their son who turned 3, so I went to that. I spent the rest of the night at home, watching some movies and relaxing.
Saturday I spent the afternoon shopping. I needed some new clothes for my new job, which starts in 1 week. Its business casual, and everything I own is either jeans or really too dressy to be working with preschoolers. I think that I got a good start to a wardrobe. I spent the evening quietly at home, being lazy and avoiding housework.
Sunday was church, and then I spent the afternoon cleaning. I have a course I started at the beginning of August, and I tried to convince myself to do some work on it yesterday. I failed. But I'm ahead of schedule already, so its ok. I have 2 days off at the end of the week so I can get some work done then. Its an introductory english course, it will upgrade my preschool certificate. It will also allow me to take a higher level english course, which I need for my alberta teaching certificate. All in all, I have 4 courses to do.
Now its Monday. Stephan is stuck working late. He was supposed to be home on Tuesday, now its Wednesday. Although there's a chance it could be even later on Thursday. I hope not. I really miss him, and I don't really feel like waiting another day...or losing another day. Especially since I have Thursday and Friday off, and I was hoping to spend the free time with him.
On a more positive note, Wednesday is my last day at Subway (FINALLY), and I start my new job as a preschool teacher next Monday. YAY!
Sorry for the lack of posts lately. I seem to be in a lag. Its a combination of being busy/working my course/being lazy. Mostly the last one....its summer, and I'm in a lounging lazy mood. Can you blame me?!

another Tuesday :(
So its Tuesday, and Stephan is gone for another 8 day shift, Tuesday - Tuesday. Another weekend without my man here. It seems like this 8-day shift is going to become a regular shift for the next few months, possibly the rest of the year. I still see him the same amount of time each month. Instead of working a 4 day shift with 3 days off, he's working 8 days on and 6 days off. Its just that I don't see him for longer periods of time, and it means he's gone every other weekend of the month.
BUT...on the PLUS side, I get to see him for 6 days in a row!! :) So I guess there are pros and cons to everything.
But I do hope that this week goes by fast, so I can have Stephan back here again :)
Please God, keep him safe at work this week. Let him come home in one piece, the way I left him.

This weekend was awesome, the perfect summer weekend. We lucked out with nice weather 2 weekends in a row, and with Stephan being home we decided to take advantage of it.
Friday was supposed to be table tennis, but its been cancelled until further notice. So instead we headed to the movie theater to watch the last Harry Potter movie. We caught the early movie, and had a late dinner after at East Side Mario's. If you haven't been lately, they have this delicious summer menu. I ordered this summer spinach salad with this vinaigrette dressing, strawberries, raspberries, red grapes, roasted walnuts and grilled chicken. It was the MOST delicious salad I've ever had. And since Friday night all I want to eat is this salad, I crave it. It was THAT good. If you haven't had it, go get some. NOW.
Saturday we had a lazy day. We slept in a bit, had a pancake breakfast and then got ready to head to the beach. We spent all day by the lake, lazing around until dinner time. Stephan forgot to put sunscreen on the back of his legs, and he spent most of the time laying on his stomach reading his book, so his legs got REALLY burnt. And I mean bad! They are still red. Guess he learned his lesson though! After the beach, we came home and had a quiet dinner and watched a movie. It was a wonderful day together.
Sunday was quiet as well. I had church in the morning, and then I came home and had an excessively long, lazy nap. We decided to go out for fast food for dinner, and also stopped to grab some medicated cream to put on Stephan's burn. Thankfully, it seems to have helped. We spent the rest of the night quietly in front of the tv.
Sadly, its now Monday night and Stephan is getting ready to head back to work tomorrow. He's on 8 day shifts for the next while, so he'll be gone every other weekend. On the upside, he's home for 6 days at a time. Hopefully this week flies by!

How to make yourself feel better by shopping 101
Today, because I had a customer freak out on me for a mistake, and because I had time to kill before I picked up Stephan, I decided that the perfect pick-me-up would be to do some shopping at Bed, Bath and Beyond. A.K.A buy some toys for my purrrrty kitchen!
I got two juice jugs. One has a section in the middle you pull out, fill with water and freeze, and the place back in so it stays cold. The other one has a thing in the middle you can fill with fruit, so it mixes with whatever you have filled it with (juice, water). I thought they would be great to use with your new patio set when we have dinner out there! So I bought some lemonade mix, and some fresh fruit. I put just water in one, and lemons and raspberries in the decanter. And the other one is filled with lemonade. YUMMY. Perfect for patio weather.

Ok, the next item makes me REALLY domesticated....but I think its adorable, and cute...and I do make a mess when I cook, so its much needed.....
So after I picked up Stephan, I cooked up dinner (wearing my new apron of course) and we ate dinner, for the first time together out on the back deck on our new patio set. It was a beautiful, cloudless day and the perfect day for a patio dinner :) Just one of the pros to owning a house :)

weekend recap - Happy Birthday Babe!
This weekend was relaxed, which was nice because this week is going to be busy getting ready to move into the house on Friday (4 days!!!).
Friday was a quiet day for me. I finished my last day of teaching at the music studio (I decided to quite because the commute will be almost an hour each way, just to teach a few hours for 2 nights a week). I dropped Stephan off at a pup to meet up with some of his friends from work, so he could go out and celebrate his birthday. I stayed home and organized some paper-work for the new house, and immigration papers. Soooo much paperwork. I feel much better now that is orgnized.
Saturday was Stephan's birthday. We had plans to go out fishing for the day with Gordie and Aryn, however the rain and thunder-storms cancelled those plans. Instead we slept in a bit, and I made Stephan a birthday-pancake breakfast. Then, since Stephan was up late the night before (and I was up late so I could pick him up at the end of the night) we went back to bed and had a nap. We lazed around the rest of the afternoon before I made Stephan a birthday dinner of meatloaf, mashed potatoes and carrots. After dinner we headed to our favourite pub for one last get together with friends before we move far away from this area. We had a great time with Aryn and Gordie, just chatting and hanging out, celebrating Stephan's birthday. And of course, I gave Stephan his birthday present: a new wallet, and a couple editions of a German magazine he likes. I also got him a "National Geographic" for him to read. If he likes it, I'll get him a subscription for a year.
Sunday, we both got up and went to Church in the morning for Pentecost service. The afternoon was quiet, we got home from church and had left overs for lunch. I took a nap. Followed by packing up some of the kitchen stuff so I could bring it to the house today. Stephan was really kind and loaded it all up in the car for me last-night.
I'm getting really excited to get into the house on Friday! I'm still trying to figure out where and how to get our mail box key, and Canada post is supposed to be "resolving the issue" by June 15th, so Wednesday. Which is a little tight, and it has me a little stressed. But fingers crossed it all works out.

Dinner in the montains
Today, Stephan was home from work. He had a doctor's appointment he had to get done for his permanent resident application. He was scheduled to work out in the mountains, in Canmore, for the week. So after work, we drove there to drop him off, since the rest of the crew was already there. Its under 1.5 hours away, so its not too bad.
Once we got there and got Stephan checked into his motel, we decided to go for dinner before I headed home. Last week (he was in Canmore as well), he had found this restaurant he loved, so we went to try it out together.

The Restaurant was called The Grizzly Paw, and it was delicious! I highly recommend it, if you are ever in Canmore! I kept it simple, and just had a chicken ceasar salad. But it was exactly what I wanted, and it hit the spot! This was Stephan's 3rd time here, and he had the bison burger. Again. for the 3rd time. He says its that good. The best bison burger he's had ever, very juicy and not dry like it can be sometimes. Also, the food is pretty well priced!
We finished dinner, and I dropped Stephan back off at the motel and headed home. The drive home was gorgeous, with the mountains and the sun setting behind me in the rear-view mirror.
Not a bad way to spend a Monday night!

Meet Me On Monday & Weekend Recap
I'm too lazy to do this in 2 separate posts. Nor do I want to write 3 posts today (in all). So I'm combining them, tough for you!
Meet Me on Monday
Today, I'm linking up with Ashley at Life as I know It.
1. What jewelry do you wear 24/7?
2. Do you twirl your spaghetti or cut it?
3. How many siblings do you have?
4. Were you named after anyone?
5. Coke or Pepsi?
Answers:
1.) I have a pair of diamond earrings, and a diamond necklace both from Stephan. And a daughter's pride ring from y parents. I wear those everyday, except when I sleep.
2.) I most definitely twirl my spaghetti!
3.) I have two siblings, both younger. My sister, Meaghan, who is 2 years younger and my brother, Ian, who is 10 years younger.
4.) No, I was not named after anyone. My grandfather did however give my parents crap for giving me a Hebrew name, and not a German name (even though most of my other cousins don't have German names, so the big deal was...?!), and was even more upset at my Irish middle name. Haha!
5.) TOTALLY PEPSI! 3rd generation, genetically addicted.
The ONLY exception is when drinking...Pepsi just doesn't mix well. You get this weird medicine taste. So, this is the ONLY time I will take Coke over Pepsi (given a choice).
Weekend Recap
This weekend was awesome! Mostly because of Saturday, read on.
Friday I got off of work and we stayed home from the German Club. Since we were driving to the border on Saturday for Stephan's work permit (as mentioned in this post), we wanted to organize all the papers we were going to need and go to bed early.
Saturday we left for the border bright and early and 7am. It takes about 2.5 hours to drive down there, and we wanted to give ourselves plenty of time. The whole process at the border itself took about 1.5/2 hours. I was worried they weren't going to give him the work permit, they were asking a lot of questions. It was a complicated case, because it got so messed up so I guess they were just trying to make sure everything was legal and that they understood everything. The guy was very friendly too, he was being nice. We just calmly answered all the questions he had and finally, the decision was made and he was approved for the work permit!
Happy, we drove home and got back around 2:30pm. I took a nap, and then we went out for dinner to celebrate! Stephan went out with some friends later from work, to celebrate. I was tired and stayed home.
Sunday I had church in the morning, and a choir practice after. I ran and grabbed some groceries and I found bison stewing meat in the meat section! So I decided to try it, and made the delicious-and-now-favourite-beer-stew-with-paprika that we both love (in the slow cooker, of course)! Not that I eat the meat, it doesn't make a difference to me. But Stephan enjoyed the bison meat and it was neat to be able to cook with something different.
We finished the day off doing laundry and watching TV.

GREAT WONDERFUL NEWS!!
I was waiting to share this until things were finalized, and now it is so now I can share!
About a week and a half ago we got word from our lawyer that the LMO (labour market opinion) Stephan's company needed to hire him, and that Stephan needed for his work permit to be approved came in! Which meant we could now apply for Stephan's work permit. The lawyer said that we could drive over the border and back, and if the border immigration people were willing, the work permit could be processed there and he would be able to start work immediately. If they weren't, then we'd have to mail in the application and wait.
So, on Saturday we took the chance and drove down to the border and.....
STEPHAN GOT HIS WORK PERMIT!
He can go back to work! Our life can go on as normal, and we can start the sponsership!
SO SO HAPPY!
He starts back at work next week :) YAY!
