Flower Friday

So I'm back to posting my flower pics, but I moved it to Friday for several reasons:

1.) Flower and Friday start with the same letter....if ya didn't know, now you do!

2.) I'm lazy on Fridays because its the end of the week and I'm tired.

3.) Just because I can

So here's your flower pic for the week. When my parents were here my mom brought me some pics from my old garden at their house. This year, the bell flowers just bloomed like crazy! Which is nice, because the first 2 years the rabbits kept eating them. So I'm glad to see them looking all pretty and bell-like :) (they are the white ones, if you were wondering....)

Progress

Well, I don't want to jump the gun or get too excited before anything is for sure. But I can't help but write this post today, because I'm in such a good mood.

The progress I'm talking about is...interviews! I had one on Friday, and one today. Both are nanny positions (I think the one today is the better fit for me, but we'll see what happens. Today's is a pretty sweet deal). I have one on Thursday, for a pre-school. And I potentially have a 4th interview next week (trying to get that set up still), also for a pre-school.

These interviews may or may not lead to a job, but I'm happy because its MOVEMENT. I spent the entire past year with only 1 interview. And now, in a matter of 2 weeks I'll have had 3 or 4 interviews. This many interviews also means OPTIONS. It means that I won't have to accept the first job, even if its not great, just because its my only option. I have choice now.

And even if these interviews don't pan out, its ok. Because interviews are a positive sign, and if I keep getting interviews it will lead to a job eventually. And hopefully the right job!

Please pray that my interviews go well, and that the right job is offered to me and that I'll have the wisdom and knowledge to figure out which job is the right job.

I'm just happy to finally have some leads!

I'm back!!!

So I was away a little longer than planned. But I have reasons, valid excuses! My parents went back to Ontario on Wednesday, although it already seems like forever ago. I will update a little on their visit with us later this week :)

This past weekend we had a big service for church. I mentioned it in a few posts, about how there were choir practices. Basically, the head of our church (the Chief Apostle) came from Germany to hold a service for the opening of our new church building. This service was transmitted by satellite to 300 of our congregations across Canada the USA. So it was a big deal. For us, this is like having the Pope come here. Just to put in perspective. I was one of the 3 organists/pianists, and I did a piece on my oboe with the choir. Overall, I feel like I played well and I'm happy with how things turned out. After the service, we went to a hall for a dinner. I was able to shake hands and grab a picture with the Chief Apostle. Its on a friends camera, so I will have to share it with you when I get it...probably next week sometime as he is traveling for work this week. It was crazy, stressful, busy the last few months preparing for this service, and while it was very exciting I am glad things are going to go back to normal now.

weekend recap

Friday I grabbed some groceries on the way home from work to make a nice roast dinner for us. After dinner we went and grabbed a few movies from blockbuster. We had rented from there in awhile, and we figured there would be some movies out since we had last been. I made a cheesecake before we started the movies, as we had been invited to a bbq on Saturday and I wanted to bring something. We spent the rest of the evening quietly, cuddled on the couch and watching movies.

Saturday was a busy day! I got up in the morning, and we got ready to bring my car in for its oil change. While I was there I had them check over the car to make sure there was no internal damage from the accident. And.......no damage!! The only damage is cosmetic on the bumper, and most of that was there previously. And no injuries to either me or Stephan. We definitely had some angels' protection that day! So yay! Good to know that everything is ok, since my parents come this week and we are going to be doing some traveling.

Following our appointment we headed to Spruce Meadows to watch some show-jumping. I hadn't been yet this year, and was really excited to go. Best of all, Ian Millar was riding and placed third! I have to say, our new house has a much closer proximity to Spruce Meadows and makes stalking him soooo much easier!
After Spruce Meadows we stopped at home real quick to change and grab the cheesecake I made. From there we headed out to the bbq. It was a really nice evening with the guys Stephan works with, and at the end of the night we all sat around the fire chatting. A perfect way to end a gorgeous day.

Sunday I had church in the morning, and fellowship after. I ran a few errands on my way home, and then took a quick nap (since we had been up late the night before). I spent the rest of the afternoon doing some cleaning around the house while Stephan did laundry. I also started working on a couple of new reeds for my oboe, in anticipation of the big service we have in 2 weeks. We spent the rest of Sunday night watching more movies on the couch.

And now...its off to pick my parents up at the airport tonight! YAY!! I'm so excited for them to see the new house, and to show it off to them :)

Adventurous drive home

Well, today was an interesting day.

Stephan picked me up from work and we spent some time shopping at Cross Iron Mills. The plan after we were done was to stop by the store and pick up our mattress we had purchased on Sunday for the guest bedroom. They tied it down to the roof of the car, and we prayed, crossed our fingers and hoped that we would get it home safe.

Well....we did.....with some BUMPS in the road. And by bumps I mean a crash. We were driving down a main road in Calgary, at the end of rush hour. We had a good distance between the car in front of us, and we weren't driving anywhere near the speed limit (traffic). The guy 2 cars in front of us randomly slammed on his breaks, and I mean SLAMMED HARD. The guy in front of us hit him, and then we in turn hit him. Luckily, no major damage that we can see. My bumper was a little banged up, but the crack was from a previous winter accident 2 winters ago and it simply made the crack in the bumper a little bigger. No matter, because either way the bumper is one piece and the whole thing has to be replaced, eventually. So its the same cost no matter the size of the crack. Its nothing that needs to be repaired instantly.

But get this...the guy who slammed on his breaks....FLED the scene! He took off, and left us other 2 cars sitting there staring! We got no info from him at all, not even a plate number. Gone.

I don't think there's any major damage to my car, but we shall see. I have an oil changed scheduled for Saturday morning at the car dealership, so I'll get them to check over everything then. Worst case, I think I might need an alignment and maybe the shocks might need to be replaced.

Either way, we got lucky. Aside from the current crack worsening, there was just a scratch on my bumper and a small dent on the other guys. It was quite a hard impact, but no one was injured and we have a lot to be thankful for. We definitely had some protection from the big man upstairs on that one!

And I guess we found out that our mattress was securely tied to the roof of car.

I'm loving that the last piece of our bedroom set arrived today! Sadly, it doesn't fit in the bedroom very well (it blocks the furnace, the light and the drawers of the night table), and so it has been placed in the walk-in closet. It will now become my dresser, instead of Stephan's, and Stephan will get the one with the mirror. Which I have mixed feelings about...it makes sense to have my clothes all in one spot, however....I want the mirror!

I'm loving that the builder-construction guy came by today and fixed the hole in the grout in our bathroom. Yay for no leaks!

I'm loving that Stephan is home and I get him for 2 whole weeks!

How to make yourself feel better by shopping 101

Today, because I had a customer freak out on me for a mistake, and because I had time to kill before I picked up Stephan, I decided that the perfect pick-me-up would be to do some shopping at Bed, Bath and Beyond. A.K.A buy some toys for my purrrrty kitchen!

I got two juice jugs. One has a section in the middle you pull out, fill with water and freeze, and the place back in so it stays cold. The other one has a thing in the middle you can fill with fruit, so it mixes with whatever you have filled it with (juice, water). I thought they would be great to use with your new patio set when we have dinner out there! So I bought some lemonade mix, and some fresh fruit. I put just water in one, and lemons and raspberries in the decanter. And the other one is filled with lemonade. YUMMY. Perfect for patio weather.


Ok, the next item makes me REALLY domesticated....but I think its adorable, and cute...and I do make a mess when I cook, so its much needed.....
So after I picked up Stephan, I cooked up dinner (wearing my new apron of course) and we ate dinner, for the first time together out on the back deck on our new patio set. It was a beautiful, cloudless day and the perfect day for a patio dinner :) Just one of the pros to owning a house :)

weekend recap - Canada Day Weekend

Yay for long weekends! I don't know why, but even though last week was just a 4-day week it just seemed so long and tiring. I needed this weekend! Stephan was gone up North, still working so I was by myself for the weekend.

This weekend was full of practices for church, as we have a HUGE service at the end of July that involves the opening of our new church building, and the head our church coming from Germany to hold the service (which is being transmitted to over 300 of our congregations across North America). That being said, I started off the weekend by sleeping in a bit (yay for sleep! anything past 5am is sleeping in for me), and had a lazy morning until it was time to go to church for an ensemble practice. After the practice ended, around dinner time I headed over to my cousins', who had invited me over for a bbq along with some other friends from church. We filled ourselves with delicious food (mmm corn on the cob), played bocce ball all evening and had a bonfire.

I also got to spend time with this little guy, Henry (my cousins John and Rachel's little baby). I actually was able to get him to give me one tiny little giggle, which was the most adorable thing to hear. And there was lots of smiles from him, which are simply infectious.


Saturday was another day with a bit of sleeping in, and then a long choir practice. This is actually our last one before the dress rehearsal. I have to say, it went pretty well and things are pulling together. I spent the evening by myself, made myself a simple dinner and enjoyed the evening with a glass of wine and a few chick flicks (hey, I never get to watch them...Stephan refuses). Oh, and I was woken up at night again by the howling, wild pack of coyotes. After that, I couldn't ever fully get back to sleep because I had dreams that the coyotes were chasing me and I was unable to even leave the front door of my house.

Sunday was a low-key day. I had church in the morning, and fellowship after. I went to a store following church and bought a mattress set for the guest bedroom, considering my parents arrive in a week. Stephan will have to help me pick it up when he gets home.a I spent some time after church doing some cleaning (since I had been lazy on it the last 2 days), and had a nap, since I was exhausted from my lack of sleep the night before. I made another low-key dinner, and watched more chick flicks (hey, I wanted to cram them in while I had the chance!).

Monday morning was early, ugh. I hate getting up on Mondays. But, on the plus side Stephan comes home from tomorrow, I haven't seen him in a week! And, on the other plus side my parents come to visit in 1 week exactly!

Please, send prayers for my little 17 year old brother, who leaves for Germany today with his friend (they are going there to visit his friend's older brother, who stayed when the family moved to Canada). Pray that he arrives safely, enjoys his trip, no harm happens and that he stays out of trouble. Yes, I'm a little worried. But I'm his older sister, and I can't help it. That being said, I hope he has the trip of a life-time, and I know it will be a great experience for him.
