It's a sad day in Habs land

Well, following my Habs throughout the summer. Yeah, hockey is over. But the draft is coming soon, and trades and such. And training camp at the end of summer.

Today was a sad sad day for my Habs. And I am not at all pleased, nor do I feel comfortable with the randomness that is the managers of my beloved team.

1.) Today they traded Halak, our fabulous back-up goalie for 2 measly prospects. Not even a current NHL player, but a potential-maybe-future one. Our back-up-who-played-starter-for-the-last-half-of-the-season-and-throughout-playoffs goalie. I know I know, he wasn't going to stay with the Habs forever, and a trade was inevitable. They would never let Price go, or have him as back-up because in the long run Price is the better goalie. More potential, more talent. Inconsistent. Halak was consistent. We needed him for another season while Price developed his consistency and turned into the next Ken Dryden. Now was not the time to let him go. And if they were going to let him go, they sure as h*ll should have gotten a lot more than him. Now who is going to back up Price? A current NHL goalie will probably cost too much and put us over our cap, which is tight as is. A farm team goalie....well, we don't have any, IMO, that are ready to back-up Price in the NHL to the extent that Halak did.

Just plain idiocy. What were they thinking? Let's decrease our already pathetic lack of depth even more?!!! Grr.

2.) LARRY ROBINSON. Big Bird. Defenceman extraordinaire, HABS LEGEND. Gold. Untouchable. Larry Robinson the great. I could go on.
He wanted to sign on at the beginning of this past season as part of the Habs coaching staff. Robinson?! SURE!! ANY DAY IN MY BOOKS! Man, could he shape up our defence. Man the hockey knowledge that would just ooze out of this guy. I drool at the thought. So should have the Habs organization. But they said in September that they were full, call back in March. Which he did. Things got dragged out. More un-returned phone calls this week and......

ROBINSON IS ASSISTANT COACH TO THE NEW JERSEY DEVILS!!
The nerve, the blasphemy! The thought of a Habs legend coaching the Devils makes my stomach turn. This is not where he belongs. And now another team is going to get his expertise, which rightly belongs to US. And all because management snubbed him. Habs fans are livid, to pass up this opportunity would be like....refusing to eat ever again. Just stupid.

I am seriously not on the same page as management. I haven't been since last summer. They are very hap-hazard and random. I just can't see their vision. I feel disconnected. I followed the team this season. But my heart wasn't in it. It just didn't feel like my team.

The fact that we lost the core of our team this summer to, in my opinion, stupid deals (*cough cough* Gomez *cough cough*) doesn't help. The fact that they would turn their backs on my beloved captain, Koivu (whom even Don Cherry respects!) after playing his ENTIRE career with them, going through cancer, almost losing his eyesight, being one of the best play-makers, and fundraising to bring some cancer equipment to Montreal is disgusting. I can't respect a franchise that does that. Where's the loyalty? Where's the sense?

And so I doubt. I doubted all year. And I doubt still. I doubt that the trades and decisions will be any better this season, based on today's happenings, and so there is little to hope for. The team I loved no longer exist. And the current team, well.....there's something missing. The fanchise hasn't been able to replace what they traded away last summer. At this point, I can't see how they will fix this mess....
