An afternoon in the park...

Today was bright and sunny, a perfect fall day! I was walking to work this morning and admiring the fall (even though its mostly yellow here. It's beautiful in its own way :P). My street is filled with big old trees that hang over the sidewalk, and the leaves are falling off creating a blanket on the ground. It was just beautiful. When I got off of work, the weather was still gorgeous...sunny and warm, blue skies. Something we haven't seen much of this summer. I had the sudden urge to go and take pretty fall pictures

So I decided to go check out Confederation Park...it's near my house, and I haven't seen it yet. And it was the perfect setting for a fall walk. I walked around the park for about an hour, and didn't even see all of it. It's huge! And beautiful. And its now my new-favourite spot. I can't wait until Stephan comes home, this is one place I definitely want to share with him!

Here are some pretty fall pictures from Confederation park! Enjoy!

weekend events

This weekend Stephan got stuck working overtime. He got home from work on Thursday, and was scheduled in Fort MacLeod for Monday. However, they are way behind out there and his boss basically begged Stephan to go, so off Stephan went. And after I finished work on Friday, I followed!

I got to Fort MacLeod just before 9pm, and we just had a lazy night and watched some TV, went to bed early because Stephan had to work on the Saturday.

While Stephan was gone during the day on Saturday, I took advantage of the beautiful weather to do some sightseeing (after I slept in). I headed out to see Head-smashed-in Buffalo Jump, which we've been wanting to see for awhile now. It's too bad Stephan couldn't come, he would have loved it. It was very interesting, the museum was very well done. I was really impressed! I plan to go back there again with Stephan. And I highly recommend it to everyone, go check it out! It's worth the drive!

The buffalo jump

After, I headed out to see the Fort Museum in town...this was a bit disappointing. It was also very interesting, but short and small. I was done the tour in less than an hour, and I have to say I've seen better Fort museums. But, I'm glad I took the time to check it out.

I liked the stained-glassed windows in the church

I made a new friend at the Fort! He was absolutely ADORABLE and I totally wanted to take him home

Stephan got back by dinner time, and so we headed out to grab a nice dinner together and checked out a restaurant called The Silver Grill that one of his work buddies told him about. It was pretty good, not top of the line but good food and for a decent price. I would go back there again. We had another lazy night watching tv and then bed.

Sunday morning we both got up early; Stephan for work and me to head back to Calgary for church, which followed with a choir practice. I spent the rest of the day lazing about doing laundry, and made tacos for dinner, YUMMY! I have to say, it was a pretty good weekend and I'm glad I followed Stephan down to Fort MacLeod and got to spend time with him.

How was everyone's weekend? What did you do?

My present

So I mentioned Stephan got me a Habs present on Thursday, on the way home from New Brunswick. It wasn't my jersey, haha! It was something small and oh so adorable and I love him even more for it.

This was my present:

Now, its worthy to note that he bought this in the bell center in the fan shop, so it didn't just come from any old shop. He also almost didn't find one with my name, but his friend was helping him search and they managed to finally find it! I love it, it's already on my key chain, along with my flag now on the car.

He also took pictures inside the Bell Center, and outside of the Centennial Plaza...which are on his camera along with the Drumheller pictures I still don't have!!

So, when I get those I will post them along with the Drumheller ones!

So happy that hockey has started! GO HABS GO!

YAY!

So, Tuesday was the most horrible day ever. The Car rental place couldn't find my garage door opener that I forgot in the car, and they weren't being very helpful about it (Monday I had driven back and forth a couple of times trying to find the right one...in downtown...at rush hour...not fun!). And then I had a customer completely freak out on me for lord knows what. It was bad enough that the customer who was currently serving stood up for me and told him off. And then I went into the back and cried. Because it had just been a bad few days, and I have been super busy and a tad stressed as well, so it just all came out.

So I was pretty upset when I got home. Stephan came online and I started to complain about my day, and the lack of help from the car rental place. And then he told me he had good news....and was about to tell me until the phone rang.

It was the car rental place, they found my garage door opener! YAY! And then, Stephan told me he was coming home early and I almost cried I was so happy! He comes home tonight, TONIGHT, instead of next Tuesday. They need him at another site down near Fort MacLeod for tomorrow. So he has to work the weekend, but he is at least home. I might go down with him over the weekend so we can have some time together.

His flight was supposed to land at 11am here in Calgary, after his stopover in Montreal. But now it doesn't come in until 5:30 (when I will be on my way to piano teaching), because on the way to Montreal their plane hit some birds and it apparently caused some major damage. So he ended up with about a 4 hour delay in Montreal, i.e. HABS LAND!

He proceeded to tell me he was having lunch beside the Bell Center and I continued to get extremely jealous. After all, of all places to get stuck in !! It should have been me!! It's MY team!
...but then my credit card would have been maxed out, and my savings depleted.

So I told him, I want a present from Habs land, a Habs present. He has no excuse, he's there 4 hours...and it will be all around him. It's law there. And I told him he can't come home without one, or I will seriously be sending him back to Montreal to get one. And then I told him I take a small in Jerseys, haha!!

He told me he bought me something Habs, and now I'm excited! I've been wanting a plate for the front of my car. But maybe he got me a new jersey?!!! for the new season?!!! I'M SO EXCITED!!

....is it bad that I'm more excited now for my Habs present than Stephan coming home?!! HAHA! don't tell Stephan...I'm not really more exited for the present....ok, kinda am...not gonna lie!! I'm so bad. But he knows my obsession with my Habs. So he shouldn't be surprised!! That's my argument, and I'm sticking to it!

Jenna's wedding

As I mentioned on the weekend, Sunday was Jenna's wedding (a close family friend, she's like a cousin to us). I wasn't there, because I live in far-away-Calgary (boo!!). This is the first time I've been away for a wedding, so I'm pouting :P I know I won't be able to make it back as often anymore (heck, I'm missing cousin Ricky's wedding next weekend too!), but this is the first time so its a little hard. Plus, Jenna is moving to the states after the wedding so its not like when I DO go home I will see her. :(

But my dad sent me some pictures of the wedding he knew I would enjoy, and which would make me smile. And because I wasn't there for Jenna's day, I want to pay a little tribute to her wedding day here on my blog.

So, congratulations Jenna and Rich! You are both wonderful people, and I wish you a life-time of happiness together! I miss you, and I really wish I had been there! Richard, don't kill my cousin with your crazy New York driving, I know first hand how you drive!!

Saturday happenings

Today I got to pick up my car, it was in the shop for the last 4 days getting all the dents from the hail storm taken out. YAY, my car is pretty again, no hail dents!

The shop was downtown, but I had to drop off the rental first. And then they drove me over to get my pretty car. So blue and pretty. haha. And then I tried, tried being the keyword, to drive through downtown and get home. As I mentioned before, I was starting to feel comfortable driving downtown.

Well, I spoke too soon. There was one-way streets, and construction. And detours. And traffic. And missing of the detours. And my GPS constantly loosing its satellite signal and "re-calculating". Eventually, I got so lost I didn't even know how to get out of downtown. I nearly had a panic attack, I hate downtown driving. This is my worst nightmare. After I pulled over and calmed down, I managed to get my GPS going again and get out of downtown with a very different route I have never seen before.

On the way home, I found this lovely little park and rock garden. Guess the getting lost was a good a thing. I took note of where it was, and plan to go back with my camera because it was just beautiful.

Oh, did I mention I left my garage door opener in the rental car, and the place was closed until Monday by the time I realized it?! Super smart move. I called and left them a message.

I tried a new recipe tonight: Minestrone soup. Turned out pretty good. I'll have to try it again and adjust it more to my taste. I just love soup.

And tonight, my dad e-mailed some pictures. My mom did some more cakes...one back in April for her friend's surprise party (It's of a cheeba, or cheeva bus from Columbia, where her friend comes from), and one she just finished tonight for a close family friend's wedding, my cousin Jenna.
I will be adding them to the section on my blog "Mom's Cakes", so go check it out! But here's a sneak preview:
