weekend recap

Well, not much exciting to tell you about this weekend.

It was quiet, and Stephan was away for work. Friday night, friends from church had a birthday party for their son who turned 3, so I went to that. I spent the rest of the night at home, watching some movies and relaxing.

Saturday I spent the afternoon shopping. I needed some new clothes for my new job, which starts in 1 week. Its business casual, and everything I own is either jeans or really too dressy to be working with preschoolers. I think that I got a good start to a wardrobe. I spent the evening quietly at home, being lazy and avoiding housework.

Sunday was church, and then I spent the afternoon cleaning. I have a course I started at the beginning of August, and I tried to convince myself to do some work on it yesterday. I failed. But I'm ahead of schedule already, so its ok. I have 2 days off at the end of the week so I can get some work done then. Its an introductory english course, it will upgrade my preschool certificate. It will also allow me to take a higher level english course, which I need for my alberta teaching certificate. All in all, I have 4 courses to do.

Now its Monday. Stephan is stuck working late. He was supposed to be home on Tuesday, now its Wednesday. Although there's a chance it could be even later on Thursday. I hope not. I really miss him, and I don't really feel like waiting another day...or losing another day. Especially since I have Thursday and Friday off, and I was hoping to spend the free time with him.

On a more positive note, Wednesday is my last day at Subway (FINALLY), and I start my new job as a preschool teacher next Monday. YAY!

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. I seem to be in a lag. Its a combination of being busy/working my course/being lazy. Mostly the last one....its summer, and I'm in a lounging lazy mood. Can you blame me?!

another Tuesday :(

So its Tuesday, and Stephan is gone for another 8 day shift, Tuesday - Tuesday. Another weekend without my man here. It seems like this 8-day shift is going to become a regular shift for the next few months, possibly the rest of the year. I still see him the same amount of time each month. Instead of working a 4 day shift with 3 days off, he's working 8 days on and 6 days off. Its just that I don't see him for longer periods of time, and it means he's gone every other weekend of the month.

BUT...on the PLUS side, I get to see him for 6 days in a row!! :) So I guess there are pros and cons to everything.

But I do hope that this week goes by fast, so I can have Stephan back here again :)

Please God, keep him safe at work this week. Let him come home in one piece, the way I left him.

weekend recap

This weekend was awesome, the perfect summer weekend. We lucked out with nice weather 2 weekends in a row, and with Stephan being home we decided to take advantage of it.

Friday was supposed to be table tennis, but its been cancelled until further notice. So instead we headed to the movie theater to watch the last Harry Potter movie. We caught the early movie, and had a late dinner after at East Side Mario's. If you haven't been lately, they have this delicious summer menu. I ordered this summer spinach salad with this vinaigrette dressing, strawberries, raspberries, red grapes, roasted walnuts and grilled chicken. It was the MOST delicious salad I've ever had. And since Friday night all I want to eat is this salad, I crave it. It was THAT good. If you haven't had it, go get some. NOW.

Saturday we had a lazy day. We slept in a bit, had a pancake breakfast and then got ready to head to the beach. We spent all day by the lake, lazing around until dinner time. Stephan forgot to put sunscreen on the back of his legs, and he spent most of the time laying on his stomach reading his book, so his legs got REALLY burnt. And I mean bad! They are still red. Guess he learned his lesson though! After the beach, we came home and had a quiet dinner and watched a movie. It was a wonderful day together.

Sunday was quiet as well. I had church in the morning, and then I came home and had an excessively long, lazy nap. We decided to go out for fast food for dinner, and also stopped to grab some medicated cream to put on Stephan's burn. Thankfully, it seems to have helped. We spent the rest of the night quietly in front of the tv.

Sadly, its now Monday night and Stephan is getting ready to head back to work tomorrow. He's on 8 day shifts for the next while, so he'll be gone every other weekend. On the upside, he's home for 6 days at a time. Hopefully this week flies by!

drumroll please....

So after 4 interviews last week, and 3 job offers I have finally decided, AND.........in 2 weeks, I will start my new job as pre-school teacher! It an entry level position, but I'll have room to grow and work my way up, and gain some job experience. And I am SO excited to be done working at Subway, and finally, finally, FINALLY starting my career.

I start my new job on Monday, August 22nd. And I finish my last day at Subway on Wednesday, August 17th. I figured I'd give myself a little mini 4-day vacation! We might have friends in town visiting that week, so I'd be able to spend some time with them before starting my new job. And if not, then me and Stephan will have some time together just the 2 of us.

Can't wait to start the job!

My own Habs nation

Me and Stephan have been talking about how we'd like to have a cat eventually. I would like 2 actually, since we are both gone from the house a lot. Stephan just wants one. We'll see what happens....I'm highly hopeful we'll have 2 eventually! However, a cat right now is just talk. Its not something that is going to happen soon, but it is definitely something that is in the future.

In the meantime, its fun to dream! We have both agreed we want a male kitten (a large part of the reason is that they are cheaper when it comes time to get them fixed), and we both like black-and-white kittens. We also both like grey-and-white kittens.

So...I thought, what better than to have 2, one of each!!! And what better names for these kittens then to name them after two famous brothers of the Montreal Canadiens: Maurice and Henri, after Maurice "Rocket" Richard, and Henri Richard (The Rocket, and the Pocket Rocket). Stephan, well, he's not so keen on the idea.

AND THEN I got to thinking....I could have my own Habs nation. As well as Maurice and Henri I could have Guy, Jean, Jacques, etc. Its at this moment that I realize I may be a slightly-psychotic Habs fan. And so I tell Stephan that I'm just kidding.

....except that I'm not really (haha!!) .....at least not about Maurice and Henri!

weekend recap - sunny days!

This weekend was a long weekend, and what a beautiful weekend it was!

Sadly, Stephan was away up North for work. Since I hadn't been in a few weeks, I decided to spend Friday night at the German club. On my way, I stopped at the mall and I found a dress for $20, super cute and a great deal! It was great too, to see everyone at the club and catch up. I played pretty well, for not having played for 3 weeks. Andy brought this sparkling wine champagne stuff for us to try, his neighbour owns a liquor store and it was new to the store. It was a passion fruit wine, and it was delicious! The best thing I've ever tasted! It was nice and light, and not too sweet. Perfect for a summer on the patio! He let me keep the bottle, and I'm going to see if I can track it down at another store.

Saturday wasn't exciting. I slept in quite late, since I had stayed up late on Friday night watching movies. I spent the afternoon doing some errands, including replacing our umbrella for our patio set, because a spring came flying off. I slacked off from doing anything house-cleaning related, besides laundry and spent the rest of the night enjoying some time to myself on the couch with a glass of wine.

Sunday was the normal church in the morning and then immediately after church I headed to the beach with some friends from church and their 2-year old boy. It was on one of the fake lakes here, but I gotta say...its a good substitute for northern-ontario-lake-deprived-me! There was SAND!!! It was perfect weather, warm but with a breeze. And the water felt glorious! Oh how I missed laying on the beach and swimming! Me and Stephan plan to go this weekend, if the weather is nice. I also have to look into my community here, because there is a lake here also that I can get access to with a membership card.

I spent the rest of Sunday night watching another movie, with a glass of wine. And I didn't have to rush to bed, because the store opened up later today :) so no early morning for me!
